As the man say: Don’t just reblog this and feel like you helped the world because you’re half-assing it. Sign it. Reblog it. Sign it and reblog it.

I, for one, find Tumblr one of the more reliable sources of information and one of the most up to date. We knew about the content of Obama’s impromptu surprise announcement before he announced it himself, just to name an example. The same difference applies to Youtube, so when I see things like this:

Sssssooooo…the government is enforcing copyright. Without proof or hearing they uproot a UK resident and SHIP HIM OVER to be persecuted in the US. WITHOUT PROOF.

Now we have The IP Act that is on the fast track of becoming a law.

An except that summarizes what this does: “The PROTECT IP Act would allow copyright owners – movie studios and other content providers – simply to accuse a website of infringement, which could lead to that site being shut down by court order and entire links to the site being wiped clean from the Internet.”

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that if you even pass a disagreeable fart, a big angry fist will punch you in the butthole and seal said butthole forever.

WHERE’S OUR SHIT GONNA GO?

Before:

After:

So the title of this, while an exaggeration of something that hasn’t happened, is a very real possibility and it’s so close to happening.

Guess I need to stop my daily trolling and contribute something to the world…

Let me just keep looking at what others are posting first… just to get an idea… ok, I’m most likely not really going to post anything.

Reblog if your able to find something wrong in this sentence.

Steven Pearlstein - Tech moves away from the all-you-can-eat model

Steven Pearlstein - Tech moves away from the all-you-can-eat model:
This is similar to the first blog post I wrote. I’m all for the idea of tiered pricing for Internet access. I’m not opposed to that at all; what I am opposed to is the particular pricing structure AT&T went with.

Personally, I think it should be 2 GB for $20 and unlimited for $30. Get rid of the 200 MB option altogether (because, quite frankly, 200 MB ain’t #$%*).

Mobile Tumblr

How does the mobile feature work for Tumblr? So far I like the interface. But it kind of seems buggy in how it connects. I guess we’ll see once I press. “Post.”

Stifling innovation

So maybe my first post on Tumblr shouldn’t be a rant about telecommunications policy, but this has been weighing on my mind for the past day, so I’m laying it on you now.

AT&T recently changed their data plans for smart phones (read: iPhones). Instead of having unlimited data, you’ll soon have two options: 200 MB for $15 or 2 GB for $25. If you go beyond your pre-determined amount, you will be charged accordingly. To me, this is about the worst thing AT&T can do since this policy is going to greatly hamper innovation and new development.

Why?

Because, increasingly, video is being pushed to mobile. Streaming short-form videos (YouTube), streaming full-length feature films (NetFlix’s iPad/iPhone apps), and two-way video chat (Skype) use huge amounts of bandwidth. And people using these services are going to eat through their monthly 2 GB very quickly (or their 200 MB even faster).

iPhone users are going to be hesitant to watch NetFlix (or any other streaming pay service) since they are going to pay for their movie three times: once for the subscription to NetFlix, a second time for their AT&T data plan, and a third for all of the overage charges they are likely to accrue.

Then (and here comes the slippery slope) app developers are going to realize users’ hesitancy to consume video, and development of video-streaming applications and services is going to be greatly hampered. Meaning the state of mobile video could be crystallized right now resulting in a rather bland, stagnant future.

Luckily, in the realm of video chatting, AT&T has already solved these problems. Skype won’t be free to use come August, and Apple’s new FaceTime will only work on Wi-Fi (as Steve Jobs tweeted, “We gave AT&T two years to prepare its network for FaceTime video calling. Two years. And nothing.”)

So that’s my rant. And my first Tumblr post. I hope it went well.
